Best Intentions

I had the best intentions of keeping the blog up to date, but other things took priority.

Scouting

Aden has thoroughly enjoyed Cub Scouts, and so have we. This year he has earned belt loops for archery, BB shooting, badminton, fishing, volleyball, soccer, chess, computer, language and culture, art, and astronomy. He has completed over thirty electives and gone on two camping trips. The last camping trip was the end of November/beginning of December. Despite the bitter cold, we all enjoyed the weekend. We took a telescope with us and were able to see Saturn in the pre-dawn hours. A lot of work has gone into this year, but it has been well worth the effort.

Sports

Fall soccer season ended and was quickly replaced with karate. In fact, the entire family joined a karate studio in November. The kids’ class is at 6:00, twice a week. It is working out much better than a team sport, because we don’t have a game to be rushing to on Saturday. Scott and I alternate who will go to the evening class while the other stays home with the kids. Actually, I have not been going as regularly as I had originally hoped. I’m having a difficult time adjusting to a new style of martial art after taking Tae Kwon Do for nearly six years. I still want to stick it out for now to learn different weapons.

Christmas

The Christmas season was a very enjoyable one for me. I didn’t even try to smock a dress for Danielle to wear this time, so I was able to focus on the other activities without freaking out about a dress. Although I did come down with bronchitis, I was still able to play the flute and perform in the hand bell choir on Christmas Eve.

Birthdays and Such

Danielle turned 5 and had a wonderful birthday party with her friends from daycare and church. Since both kids have a large circle of friends, it is rare a month goes by without going to a birthday party or two. Whether it is a small affair at someone’s house, a bowling party, or a sleepover, we try to fit in them all. It does seem our family is on the go a lot, but I assure you, we do normal things too like weekly movie nights, bike rides, and evening reading sessions from a classic chapter book.

Easter Festival

Once again I played Peter Cottontail at our church’s Easter festival. My mother was there and had a wonderful time. Jane and Theresa, you would have been so proud of her. I wish you could have seen her blowing bubbles with the kids. Sorry, no photo of that, but trust me it would have made you smile. She helped me put all the treat bags together this past week and passed them out to the kids before they left. Danielle’s Easter dress this year was bought from a consignment sale. I’ve been trying to smock “Blue Bird” from AS&E 49 for months. I can’t seem to get it finished. Perhaps it will be ready by Mother’s Day.
